Where to Ask for Records or Status

Use the sheriff and detention contacts for local jail custody, booking information, incident-report routing, and questions about the Columbus County Detention Center. Use court, state, federal, ICE, or VINE channels when the person is outside the county jail system.

• For a person held at the county jail, start with jail inmate records, the sheriff's In Custody report, the detention direct line, or the Sheriff's Office main number.
• For booking photos, use the limits and request notes on jail roster mugshots; the public custody report documented in the research is text based.
• For charges, docket numbers, court dates, or case status after an arrest, use court records after a jail arrest, the North Carolina eCourts Portal, public terminals, or the Columbus County Clerk of Superior Court.
• For facility rules, use the facility pages linked in the footer for Columbus County Detention Center, Columbus Correctional Institution, and Tabor Correctional Institution.
• For a sentenced state prisoner, use the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information Search. NCDAC states that county jail information is not included in that database.
• For federal custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. For immigration custody, use ICE Online Detainee Locator System. For notification options, use North Carolina VINE / NC SAVAN.
• The Columbus County Sheriff mobile app is listed on Apple App Store and Google Play and advertises contact information, emergency alerts, inmate search, sex offenders, Most Wanted, tips, and social media features.
